I've not stayed that far from a shop, but my favourite place to stay in Scotland the wee village shop is only open during the day anyway so it's not available to nip out too, but you get used to it really quickly. My favourite part of it though is the ability to clear your head anytime you want by just going out of your front door. (as long as you have a good umbrella!) I say good for you for making this move. Being able to is one thing but actually doing so is a lot braver step to take.
