Crosstown Traffic

‘Yes, this road can get really busy at this time of day,’ I heard myself saying the other day, before I could stop myself. A friend was giving me a lift home and had just had to pull in to let the fourth car pass in as many miles. I mean, really.

‘You don’t believe when you move here that you’ll ever complain about the Bigtown traffic, but you will,’ someone warned me last year. I pooh-poohed it at the time. Not any more. I’ll be moaning about the lack of parking next.

Don’t worry. You’re just going native.

You will, quite rightly, be moaning about the horrendous price of parking next, though Scotland was so much cheaper than England.

  3. Dom Says:

But surely Bigtown has the advantage of roads with 2 lanes negating the need to pull over every time another car is seen :)

Karl – I hope not, because then I’ll start driving everywhere
Wendy – it’s worse than that – the parking’s free, and still they complain
Dom – this was outside Bigtown, in the land of single track roads with passing places (where, to be fair to me, even one oncoming car is a pain)

That’s the best thing about the sticks – just wait until you hit the least car-friendly place on Earth (Edinburgh) – then you really really appreciate your rural idyll – although to annoy those doon sooth it’s still possible to park within a mile of the city centre for free!

what, less car friendly than London? I find that hard to believe…
