So I discovered this morning that – while I’m happy to share a shower with a single spider, as long as it’s not too scuttly – I draw the line at two. Especially when the second is about twice the size of the first (which has been there since yesterday morning and seemed relatively content to stay at the far end of the bath) and has a distinctly restless look to it.
I can do the whole glass-and-a-piece-of-paper thing if I have to but it tends to end in tears. Or girlish screams as the spider makes a run for it right towards me, if I’m absolutely honest. Fortunately the other half is made of sterner stuff, and the bath is now spider free.
And how was your morning?

Personally I’d be introducing the spider to the sewerage system via the local plumbing.
You need one of these:

I wouldn’t be without mine!
waking at 4 a.m. this morning wishing I’d had a bath before bed cos my hair smelt of turps and undercoat. As for catching spiders, I’m your girl. I also rescue gnats out of wine glasses and dry their little wings on a tissue. Nuts. xx
Dom – shame!
Louise – or maybe I could knit a spider ladder & they can get themselves out
RTC- see, I’m soft-hearted (and won’t let the other half kill them) but too useless to do anything about it. Which is pathetic really
I am pretty tolerant of spiders. As long as they stay on the ceiling. I have humongous wolf spiders in my yard — and have no problem with them as long as they stay in the yard. But if one gets in the house, pandemonium ensues.
I’m working on the premiss of natural selection. Eventually spiders will evolve to either a) not go somewhere where I can rinse them or, more preferably b) not come anywhere near me. This would be best for both me and the spiders. It doesn’t help that my wife keeps tarantulas as pets.
Outdoors, I value spiders as part of general insect population control. But indoors — that’s my territory, and woe betide the intruding spider! A handy shoe works wonders.
WOL – do the cats not get them?
Dom & Kirsten – i think you’re probably outnumbered by the spider-rescuers so the evolutionary impact will be quite small
