I’ve been a town mouse all my life – born in London, brought up all over the world, but always in a city. In April 2008 we both quit our jobs and moved up to the middle of nowhere, somewhere in Scotland.
If you enjoy my writing, you may also enjoy my book, Out of a Clear Sky, which has nothing to do with the blog except that it’s also written by me.
You can find out some random things about me here, and some more boring official stuff here.

Yep. It’s great… apart from the hills, of course

We did the same 20 years ago and now, having retired, have moved back to the outskirts of Cardiff – lots of free buses! Good luck with your cottage etc. – from another member of the Slow Bicycle Movement!

This looks fun! We’re not originally from the big smoke, but we escaped London recently and “downsized” to a small town. Not rural, but still very different. Cycling – check, gardening – check. I hope you don’t mind another follower!

Hi, I\’ve just discovered your blog. We townmice from Liverpool ran away from home in December 06 to the middle of nowhere, somewhere in the west of scotland. I intended to do a lot of bike riding, mostly because I can\’t drive and the nearest shop is many miles away, but the hills defeated me!
I enjoy your writing style, and the pictures of your veggie patch. You seem to be having the same challenging experience as me, tryng to make (allow) veggies to grow in the less than tropical conditions here in the north. Lynda

Hi Lynda – glad you enjoy it & sorry to hear about the hills. It’s the rain (and the wind) that keeps me off the bike (especially today)
