Spitting Feathers

Walking out the other day, I thought we had another record for the Splatter Project

feathers on the roadside

Closer inspection revealed that there were feathers, but no actual body. Not roadkill, then but just a kill: some peregrine or sparrowhawk had sat on the wires overhead and plucked itself a pigeon for dinner. As this was just outside our house, I’m only sorry I didn’t look out the window and catch it in the act.

I also missed a visitation by the tarmac fairy, in more or less the same spot. The other half claims he saw two men with a shovel, but we know better, don’t we children?

I’ve found feathers like that on the plot a few times where a fox (?) has caught a pigeon. xx
